PC/jeffeosso;thanks fellas I am very happy with the blank, more so for the grain layout than any figure and it is aged nicely at about 15 years,I would not have got the deal I did if left to my own devices I'm sure.
465;just go for the 300WM/458WM bolt face on the standard length action, pretty ordinary finish out of the box.I had the action blueprinted which didn't need too much squaring up actually, lapped lugs to 75% contact. It did need a fair amount of polishing along the rails and feed ramp but feeds like a varmint rifle now.
blue;your right brother, thats one of Jim Wisner's 3 position units, also installed one of his lengthened follower springs.

mix3006,

Nice looking project. A few questions, who's the manufacturer on the front sight? And, what are the dimensions of your stock blank and if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it??? I'm curious because I have a line on a very nice blank and want to make sure I'm not paying too much and that there's enough there to work with.

G'day Prewar70;firstly thank you.The front sight, like the rear sight are Recknagel which are sold in the States by NECG using NECG name.I can't help you with the blank dimensions as I didn't measure it but check out the photo of the barreled action laying on the blank for proportions and that will get you pretty close (24"barrel).That blank was $1500AUST ($1100US).

Very nice! Are you going to leave the bolt handle like it is or are you going with a straight one? I've never much cared for the looks of the FN style handle, but I can work one faster than any other I've tried so far.

The piece of wood is top drawer! great price on it too.

Thanks for sharing, I love to see works in progress!

Glad you enjoying those TC1;I love to look at works in progress also so only fair I contribute when the chance comes up.Yes i'm going to leave the bolt handle alone because as you say,the angle does work well, already contoured to clear a low mounted scope and the handle head is already milled flat and checkered on the bottom for a good positive lift.Certainly prettier ones out there but this one just works and I can't justify changing it.

You've got a beautiful rifle coming together. What are you planning on hunting with it?

Who makes the coffin style magazine box? I have considered a Sunny Hill drop box for a Whitworth .375, but don't want to have to restock it as well. This looks like it is made to be below a standard stock. Is this correct?

js;I had the floorplate machined up as a custom job by Bob DeVries at Kudu Services in Victoria, just sent him my action and explained how I wanted it.I particularly wanted the bottom metal to sit proud of the stock but I can't see any reason why he couldn't machine the flange lower to esentially give you a hinged dropped box,but hey,I could be wrong.Whichever,it would look brilliant on a mag.length action.
Thanks jeffp.

G'day Kev;thanks very much.I chose the 416 Taylor using the 458WM case because I wanted a round that would duplicate the ballistics of the 416 Rigby without having to have a standard length action opened up.I know that plenty do it,but for me ,if I'm going to run an action at full throttle,I want it modern and plenty of it there.
