OK guys I will leave my model pre 64 featherweight 308, as is. beacuse I found a very nice remington 03 A3 sporter at a gunshow today. There are scope mounting holes in it, it looks as though whoever did it up who know how long ago did a real nice job. Turned down the factorybarrel mounted an old redfield peep site, (might be worth a buck or two) Put it in a decent piece of walnot and did a real nice job of polishing it up before bluing it. I don't know how to post a picture here or I would give it a try. I will try her out tommorow and unless I fall in love , This will be a good start for my .257 R ACK IMP. Is it any harder to put a timney trigger in an 03 A3 than a mauser ? I also will need a Bulert type saftey. By the way ,I paid .250.00..tj3006 freedom1st

$250?, sounds like a deal to me! Timney trigger is pretty much a drop in, safety might need some fitting.

I would advise against the Buehler safety. It is a 2-piece design and I don't trust a little number 2 screw to hold things together. I recommend the Dayton Traister 1 piece forged safety. A bit slimmer also. -Spencer

Since the model 70 was a copy of the Springfield it is only fitting that a Springfield save your model 70 pre 64 featherweight 308. It sounds like you got a good deal on a rifle that has not been spoiled with ameture gunsmithing. I predict you will have fun building that 257 and have a very nice rifle when all is said and done. I myself have never had trouble with Buehler safeties, but I actually prefer the side swing two position ones such as those from PME on most of my Springfields. The three position model 70 type are nice also but more expensive. ****************************** "We do not exaggerate when we state positively that the remodelled Springfield is the best and most suitable "all 'round" rifle".......Seymour Griffin, GRIFFIN & HOWE, Inc.

Use a replacement trigger that has a built-in side safety or get a Model 70 3-position type installed on the bolt plug. The trigger with the side safety is effective and costs less in the long run. But it does require the removal of some wood so it will operate. I think Timney still makes such a trigger. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."
