I just purchased a Rem 760 in the unusual caliber of 223
I put it on the bench and loaded it and tried to fire it.. No bang.
I noticed there was no red ring on the safety. It is converted to left handed.
Is this as simple as removing safety button and flipping it to right hand?

Basically says: Here's the final outcome for anyone interested.

If the safety detent hole is located to the right side of the trigger plate centerline, then you have a right-hand trigger plate. The LH safety (#931440A) will work on a RH trigger plate, making it a LH gun. To switch back, all you have to do is put a standard safety (#90930K) back in to make it RH again. This is what I had, so a standard safety put my rifle back to a RH safety configuration.

If it have a LH trigger plate (factory setup with a standard safety, but reversed), then the safety detent hole would be on the left side of the trigger plate centerline. You cannot simply switch the safety direction, because the detent hole is in the wrong spot. At that point, go see a gunsmith to have it filled/drilled or pickup a new RH trigger plate. (Item number 816920)

I couldn't have figured this out without RJ's help to put all of the pieces together!

I hope this helps the next guy looking to reverse the safety on these great old Remington 760's!!
