I have a JC Higgins mdl. 50 in 270 win. that I think I am going to sell, but it is the one with the same hole spacing on the bridge as on the ring for the bases. In case somebody wants to buy it for the rifle rather than for the action I want to know what you all have done to put bases on them (so I can tell the person).

I have only ever shot it open sighted since I got it. I bought for the action but enjoyed shooting it so much that I left it alone.

They take the Leupold FN bases, which Leupold has quit making in the Weaver-style anyway.

On my Sears m-50 I used Weaver bases for an FN action but had to have one hole drilled and taped in the the rear (I beleave it was the rear as it was 10 years ago) as the spasing between hole was to wide.

I am about 100 miles from you , have a relative who may be intrested in M-50.

Dago Red,

I might be interested. You got any pictures? Price? I live in Sacramento, not too far from you.

I have that very action and it wears unmarked bases that fit the evenly spaced holes perfectly. The only marking is an arrow to show which direction the bases go on.

Nice thing is, Talley rings will fit the bases... Might have to swill around in the parts boxes at gunshows for a set. Or do everyone a favor who owns the rifle after you, have the holes welded and retapped.

According to Leupold's website, the pre-1955 gun has a different hole pattern than after 1955. The earlier models take standard FN bases (#49988 1-pc. or #50025 2-pc.). The later gun fits a #49989 1-pc. base. Leupold doesn't offer 2-pc. bases for them. Hope this helps.

I have the same rifle, but in 30-06. Conetrol makes bases for the model 50 with .860 rear bridge hole spacing. These were to only ones I had found.

Good Luck
