'Silvers' recoil pads.
Are the modern made 'Silvers' recoil pads soft like a 'Kick-EEZ' or is it solid and hard?

Thanks,

Sam

they're soft. in fact, they're really a little too soft to get a good finish on the gun. plus they're absorbent enough they soak up every spot of grease they come near. i've only used the $30 "reproductions" but i gather you can get the real thing for abt $75 and supposedly they finish up better.

have never had a kick-eez but i think even the repro silvers are firmer than that. but in no wise would you call them hard. have one on my 35 whelen, a 500 NE #1 (which isn't finished and hasn't been fired) and something else i can't recall now. several sxs's over time. they "look" right. and importantly have no hollows or internal voids so can be cut all the way down to fit anything.

I've got a Silvers on the Wiebe built 500 Jeffery and it's pretty hard. Granted, you don't want anything too soft on something that recoils that much, but the Silvers I have is hard.

my experience with silvers pads is that they are not soft, and certainly nowhere near the kickeez.

I used one to replace a sixty year old one that had rotted in place on a model 1910 take down MS in 9.5x57 (I'm not bragging; as a moron I sold it, duh). Anyway the silvers replacement was pretty firm. It looked like the one that came on the gun, only a lot better.

NECG sells a similar pad that is pretty firm as well.

To my knowledge all the contemporary "Silvers Pads" are of a quite hard finish and grind and polish well.

They are made in the U.K by David Little who also owns Kynamco (Kynoch ammo) and can be ordered via e-mail through the Kynamco web-site.

Many of the best London Guns made today use these pads

everyone please note, i made a distinction between "silvers" and "silvers reproduction" pads. specifically saying i had no experience w/ the former which are more than twice as expensive.

I have been using them for years, the original and the new ones, They are hard by recoil pad standards..I like them for looks and I like them for covering with leather...

I don't need a soft pad, as I think Jack Belk said it all when he said a recoil pad only gives the gun a running start at your shoulder.. jump

silvers pads are hard, and generally pink.. er red.. no, they are PINK...

to finish one, grind as normal, blow it off with air, then hit it with a palm sander.. you can also run a zippo around the edges to close it up DO NOT MELT IT it will turn black

How does the Silvers pad compare to the Pachmayer Decelerator.
