I've got my heart set on a m70 classic, but I'm terrified of getting a lemon. Does anyone have the rates for Mark Penrod? Does he by chance have a website? What is his turn around time? Thanks.

Sevens,

I've had Mark do some work for me. He does a VERY good job and his turn around time was very good. I had a sear problem on my 375 HH and he had that back to me in a couple of weeks. He took about a month to go through another rifle.

His prices were resonable, but I don't remember the specifics.

I don't even think that Mark has an e-mail address, much less a web site.

Here's him 'normal' contact info:

Penrod Precision
312 East College Avenue, North Manchester, IN 46962
(260) 982-8385

He's always been willing to talk with me about things before shipping things off, so you could ask him about prices and turn around.

I highly reccomend him and will use him for all future work.

Tell him Steve Holder says hi!

-Steve

I once emailed him and received his reply from markpenrod@kconline.com
He was a gentleman on the phone and he emailed me back some nice photos of his work.

My Featherweight Classic 7mm-08 has been reworked by Mark Penrod. He is a first class gunsmith and one heck of a nice person. You will definitely be happy with any work he does. He is very up front about how busy he is and what the turnaround time will be. He does first rate work and is pretty darn fast when he's not covered up with business.
I just can't recommend him highly enough, he is one of the good guys, and deserves our support.

I've done business with Mark Penrod for over ten years. He is indeed one of the 'good guys' of the fine custom riflesmithing field. You can trust him completely, and he not only has an artist's eye, but he has the fine tooling and great skill to carry out any sort of precise metalwork, as well as build complete rifles on fiberglass stocks. You won't find Penrod using old fired cartridge cases to headspace chambers with like some guys do! His work is precise, and it shoots, and it functions. Period. Finely-finished, as well!

His best-quality metalwork is something else, and it's in league with the work of some of the best metal specialists of all time. I have a Penrod-produced Model 70 barreled-action in .270 Win. at a fine stockmaker's shop right now for an O'Connor-style stock of good English walnut, and Mark performed every refinement I could think of to that action to make it as functional and attractive as possible. New bottommetal from Ted Blackburn, new bolt handle with two checkered panels, a 23" Kreiger barrel, reshaped tang, built-up and checkered bolt release, made-from-sratch scope bases -- the works.

Mark can do it all.............

Mark's Holland and Holland style quarter ribs and front sights are, to my eye, the best looking I have ever seen. He's tops with the Ruger #1's, as well.
