Just wanted to pop in here and let everyone know that the Left Handed actions are a reality! We just received a shipment of a handful of left hand long actions 1/2 chrome moly 1/2 stainless steel. Not a lot of them, but a start. We also received some Short actions in chrome moly with standard bolt faces.

Now I don't want everyone getting too excited cause we still have some work to do before they are ready to go out, but they are now arriving. I am thinking that the left hands will start going out in "approximately" 2-3 weeks.

I believe the machine shop (I'm not 100% sure on this) is done with the Chrome Moly shorts and are going to be working on the stainless within the next week or so. I'm not sure either whether they will go to the Longs or continue with the shorts. I hope to know a little better this coming Monday or Tuesday.

It's been on heckuva ride to get here, but the left hands are finally here!!!!!!

I've talked to the Sales Manager and let him know that I will provide him with a list of serial numbers that have arrived. Once I give him that list I will also post the list here as a reply to the thread. Keep watching for it next week.

It's nice to be able to post some good news in here for a change and I hope everyone looks at it as good news.

I've got a question on those actions. An early problem I heard about was the lack of a detent for the striker when the action is open. At least one custom gunsmith here has ground in a shallow notch for the striker to fall into.

I don't know whether lack of a detent causes an actual problem or if it is just lack of a design feature that Mausers and M70s have.

Will the newer M1999s have this detent?

And how about that unexpected bolt shroud spinning and taking a gouge out of the stock problem? I think that was due to a plunger not finding its hole. Now that there is some experience with the RH actions and a simple published fix, will the fix be incorporated? If not, do you endorse the fix?

We have put a cocking piece notch in the bolt. While our shroud lock should work fine, we've decided to add this notch as a failsafe. This will keep the shroud from turning whatsoever. Actually, we have walex to thank for this as his was the first to do this.

Dan, do you have the shrouds for the stainless actions yet?

sambubba,
If you are talking about the Left Hands, not yet, but the machine shop assures me they are working on them.

And here are the numbers. When you look at them I'm sure there will be a few who say what happened to such and such number as it is right in the middle of these. But please remember that we "assigned" numbers not bases on materials or even bolt face, they were assigned as first come first served basis so our numbers will be all over the place.

The first ones are Short Action, Left Hand, Chrome Moly, Standard bolt faces:

Thanks

With all these actions going out not one has a custom number, will all these come later. Maybe It was a mistake to order one this way. Its been about fifteen months since I ordered my sons, hope his birthdate for a serial number won't also be a hold up.

Roger,
Although your number is not on the list, it shouldn't be too long. As I said (or think I said ) they should have all of the Chrome Moly Shorts done and should be working on either the Stainless Shorts or they went into the Longs. I'll try to find out today.

Rock,
I think you are talking about "special" serial numbers, such as BL03-Rock? Don't worry, we have ordered these actions with those serial numbers in mind. The numbers shown don't all belong to someone. As a manufacturer we have the ability to change the serial numbers at a whim.

Here's the updated list of serial numbers we currently have received. The machine shop doing the shrouds brought over a sample of the shroud yesterday for threading purposes and everything looked good. We have our fingers crossed that they start flying out of his shop soon.

"The numbers shown don't all belong to someone. As a manufacturer we have the ability to change the serial numbers at a whim."

Does this mean that there's potentially a LH SS short action with no ones name on it? If so, I'll take it regardless of the bolt face configuration!

You guys take this for what it's worth... I talked to MRC while ago and I was told that the LH stainless-both short and long-had already left the machine shop AND heat treating and were at the polishers being finished. The elusive shrouds are supposedly done and are to be sent to MRC on Friday. They are telling their sales dept. that the completed actions/barreled actions should begin shipping to us in three weeks. I sure hope this info is correct. Do I hear an amen, Rusty?

A few months ago, Dan said that due to all the delays, they would honor the charter price on the LH's 'until they start shipping'. Is there time to get on the bandwagon??

Here's what was posted on MRC's website on 6 April, 2004:

"We just received a shipment of the first left handed actions on 4/16/04. The majority of these are Short Actions in Chrome Moly with Standard (.473") bolt faces. We did receive a few Long actions. They are all magnums and are about 1/2 and 1/2 chrome moly to stainless steel. You can find out the serial numbers by going to the Accurate Reloading Gunsmithing Forum. It is listed under MRC 1999 Left Hand Actions.
This is GREAT NEWS! They are finally going to start coming in!!!!
Now for the bad news, we do not expect to start shipping any of the Left Hand actions for approximately 3-5 weeks. There is still work that needs to be done to ensure everything operates properly before we ship the first one."

Has anyone seen a Lefty yet?

Hey Dan, how about updating the website!

Here is a list of the serial numbers for Lefties that we have received as of today. As I said before we were waiting for the left handed shrouds, but from what I understand we are supposed to see the first of these some time this week. Unfortunately they took a while because the machine shop had to make them "after" we had received the actual production models of the left hand.

As you can see the # of Longs hasn't changed at all. As far as the short lefties we just received about 110 of them.

As to special serial numbers, as I said before by my going through the orders and the Operations Manager going through the orders there are quite a number of them that are "free" numbers. These serial numbers will be issued to orders by date sequence so that someone doesn't get there action that ordered it much later than someone else. This is the only fair way to do it.

I will make a post in our "What's New" page on our website showing all of these serial numbers too.
