I have a new Win M70 Synthetic Featherweight stock that I need to fit. I have never done this before but figure that it can be done by a careful novice. The bottom eyeletting for the floorplate hinge and the triggerguard are too tight. They will have to be opened up some to allow the metal to seat properly. Also, the barrel channel is very tight and contacting the barrel for nearly its full length. Can anyone give me and advice on where to begin and what tools or supplies will be required. I figure I will need to do the fitting with sandpaper rather than something more dramatic like a Dremel Tool. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark in GA

Chisels and scrapers will also cut synthetic material but will dull fairly quick. Corse sand paper wrapped around dowels works good on barrel channels for knocking down high spots. You are right to stay away from power tools unless you are really comfortable and good with them. Filling in “mistakes†on synthetics is normally a bit easier and less noticeable since you can die epoxy to more closely match the color of the stock.

Take it from me. DO NOT US A DREMMEL TOOL. Ok a little but be real careful. I got a two part marine epoxy from Lowes. Looks like salt water taffy, set in about 15 minutes. You can fill pin holes and fix mistakes with it. It disapears when painted. Go slow and take your time. Tupperware is pretty easy to work with. If you do not break the gel coat fixing any mistakes is a snap. Lots of sand paper and sore fingers and the only other requirements.
