I have a Mauser 95 action and a Krag action and a dilema...I'm interested in two cartridges for these two actions. I would like to build a 250 Savage and a 35 Remington. Either one would be straight foreward on the 95 action, but the Krag action would would be a bit trickier. Instead of a 250 Savage or 35 Rem on the Krag I could do a rimmed 35 Rem from 30-40 Krag brass or a 25 Krag (reasonably close performance to the 250 Savage). Any insight on which would be preferable is appreciated. By the way, I'm not planning on pushing either cartridge. I have other guns if I'm looking for higher performance. Thanks for the suggestions.

The 95 Mauser is the better choice for the two cartridges you've listed, but in a perfect world, it wouldn't be my first choice. Most of the time it's cheaper, easier and better to buy what you need for the project than trying to make what you have work. Mark Pursell

The Krag design doesn't require a rim. Think of the ones in 6.5x55. However, a US krag with a rimless cartridge may require magazine modifications to feed correctly, like any rifle with a major change in cartridge dimensions. Bruce
