Peep Sight for FN Commercial

Hello folks, I have a 9.3 FN Commerical in 9.3x62.

It's a round bridge job and not drilled and tapped.

Sights are currently a nice wide express V regulated for 285gr Soft Points at 50m with a 6 o'clock hold. This is great for driven boar. However, I'd like to use this rifle a little more and so would like to change the sights.
I still have the original 3 leaf rear sight but I find the notches too small for my not wonderful eye sight.

I was wondering, does anyone make a cocking piece mounted peep sight?

This would help me shoot a little further out and also mean I wouldn't have to drill and tap the action.

Many thanks,

Scrummy

I am planning on having my gunsmith duplicate / copy one of these.

Duane: I noticed that. I just showed him what D´arcy Echols consider a good Peep / Ghost ring sights.

Considering Echols is known for no frills, "bombproof" setups, I would guess to venture that a Peep/Ghost sight mounted on the rear bridge, instead of the cocking piece, is much more sturdy.

there is a well known gunsmith in So. Africa that makes bolt peeps and they are nice, I don't recall his name but he should be easy to locate thru their guild..

My answer to such a peep sight is use Talley scope bases and mounts on your gun and Talley makes a slip on adjustable for windage Peep sight slides on and locks to the rear base. The last on I bought cost $60.00. For elevation I buy the highest gold faced square partridge front sight from New England Arms and hand file it to zero at the 100 yard range, its a perfect sight thin and squae post with a gold face. When not in use I store the peep it in a small leather sheath on my cartridge belt or carry it in pants or shirt pocket, its small and easy to tote around...

Hi Atkinson,

Problem is my rifle is not drilled and tapped and to make matters worse has two round bridges. This is why I think the cocking piece sight is the way forward.

Its no big job to drill and tap your FN for a peep sight or scope, its and FN! I have an older Lyman or Redfield that came off a gun just like yours, you would need to drill and tap two holes on the left side of the rear ring to mount a peep sight. If you drilled and tapped the top rings for a scope then you would have to lower the bolt to clear the scope or tig a Talley bolt on it. Talley, Weaver, Redfield, and Leupold make scope bases for all FNs, both comm. and military..

The round bridge is of no consequences, they just omitted drilling and tapping at that point in time..and even if for some reason it couldn't be done, all one has to do is surface grind the action to a set of bases or custom make a set of bases to fit the action. but in your case all that is required is to drill and tap.
