I have a stainless barrel nut on my savage, but it now has a blued action and blued barrel. My question is how to get that stainless barrel nut to not be stainless? Will savage sell me a blued nut? Or will i have to try some of that Blue-Restore type stuff? What can you all recommend? Thanks.

Scott,

In order to blue stainless you first need to coat the piece in an iron oxide coating so it will take the bluing. Cold bluing solutions will not work. Call Savage and see if you can order a blued barrel nut, or, call Sharp Shooter supply at (419)695-3179 and see if they can assist you.

Good luck,

Malm

If your purpose is to have matching color for the whole barrelled action then :

Maybe you can buff it with regular steel wool(not stanless steel wool), it will leave a fine coat of steel on the nut and you can blue it?

Or use baked-on lacquer, gloss or matte depends on the rest of the gun finish. This is better than the steel wool method because baked-on finish is tougher.
