How to use foaming bore cleaner?

I've never used foming bore cleaner, but I have some Outers on order and I should receive it in a few days.

How do you use the stuff? Do you use a bore guide with it? Do you plug the bore at the muzzle, and, if so, do you plug it before or after inserting the foam? If you do plug the bore, do you plug both the muzzle and the breech? After the foam does its job in the bore, how do you get it out -- with a patch on a cleaning rod? Should you follow the foam with somthing else -- an oil-based bore cleaner, or with some kind of oil? While the foam is in the bore, do you have the rifle resting horizontally or vertically?

I use WipeOut, place the rifle horizontally in either a vise or a cradle, put something to capure dripping foam under muzzle (rag or cardboard box). The WipeOut spout fits perfectly into a straw from McDonalds. I insert the straw as far into the chamber as it will go, that way I avoid getting WipeOut into or out the back of the chamber. Shake the can, insert WipeOut nozzle into straw and carefully give a short blast. Trough the straw I can see when the foam expands into the bore, I keep a rag handy at the muzzle to capture excess foam but try only to spray until I JUST get the foam coming out of the muzzle. On the hand dealing with the excess foam, I wear a disposable glove, WipeOut is pretty vile stuff.

Leave for a few hours (over night).

To remove the remains of the foam, I simply patch out with dry patch, and follow with several oily patches. Carb cleaner would probably get rid of the foam even better.

the tube that comes with the outer's is too short. you need a longer one. if you don't have a source handy, I will send you the extra I have.

with the new tube on the can, jam the tube tightly in the chamber, sealing the tube against the shoulder of the chamber. this keeps the foam, which can quickly degrade some wood finishes (oil and shellac) very very quickly, off the wood and out of the action/lug recesses/etc. aim the gun, muzzle down, at a piece of paper towel, and press the button until you get foam out the muzzle. it can shoot out pretty far.

lay gun on side, slightly muzzle down, as the foam works.

I have left it in all night in some bores, and did not notice any ill effects.

when removing it from a dirty bore, plug the the muzzle, and scrub the bore with a nylon or ss brush from the breech. then use a patch to push out the wipeout.

follow up with a patch or two with your favorite cleaner (I use shooter's choice). they always pick mup a little black that the foam leaves behind.

It really works best using a good bore guide with an o ring ,as it will back up some into the action if you aren't careful.Small quick squirts till it comes out the muzzle.I have best luck on real copper grappers to clean the bore normal with whatever you use,get most of the powder and carbon fouling out, patch it dry, then use the foam. The Outer can doesn't say to shake before using, but Wipe-Out does,so i have been shaking both brands?

use a dowell rod and a patch to insert in the chamber snugly.....put a 12 inch piece of surgical tubping over the Wipe Out nozzle..push it into the barrel as far as it will go and give it a quick squirt until if forces the tubing out of the bore at the crown of course, may take two squirts...Leave int he more about 20 to 30 minutes and clean with patches until dry...repeat if necessary...Don't use a brass jig or you will never get a clean patch..remember a bore does not need to be squeeky clean, you still have to fire fouling shots.....

Everyone has their own method: plug the chamber with an ear plug and close the bolt on it to seal. Squirt the cleaner into the muzzle (length depends on caliber, but about 3/4 sec for a 30 cal). Put finger over the muzzle while foam expands. When pressure builds to the point the foam is moving around your chamber plug, release and capture the excess on a rag.

There is absolutely no need for a straw or tube, the foam will go everywhere it can go (just try to keep it out sometime!).

I use wipe-out, always overnight. Finish with a carbon cleaner to get the last of it out. HTH, Dutch.

I use wipe-out and a mcdonalds straw. Slip the straw in the chamber till you feel it hit the rifling/leade,...squirt it, leave the straw with the can attached in the chamber for 1-2min,..then pull it out and walk away for 24hrs. Best thing since smokeless powder.
