Has anyone had any problems with cracking the front receiver ring during rebarrel?

I may have a chance to buy one at a good price and want to rebarrel to a larger bore. I read that some have been known to crack when rebarreling, would like more info/opinions.

The Eddystone is not the gun the Remington or Winchester is in the p-17 Enfield. It's fine in .30-06 and I'd leave it there.

The p-17 is a lot of work to turn into a fine sporter and you could own a very nice mauser or M-70 for less.

I'd not recommend it.

If you will cut a groove around the barrel just ahead of the receiver to relieve the pressure of the overtight barrel, it should come right out. I've removed a lot of barrels off of P14 actions and the only one that ever cracked was a Remington. Maybe I just got unlucky.
