I am intending to remodel a stock with a silver oval. How deep can I go before breaking through the surface:1/16 or 1/8 or more? The oval and stock are pretty recent I should add.
Is it possible to rmove and replace the oval?
I should think about 1/8 would be my max.
Thanks for any help.

It depends on who supplied the oval. Some may be silver coins reshaped and ground flat before being shaped and inletted into the stock.

Otherwise although they are quite thin they may have a rather nasty "pin" on the back where it has been hammered into the stock.

1/16 or 1/8? They are, unless a coin, a LOT thinner than that!
