I've got a pre-64 Model 70 in 30-06 hanging around begging to become a 458. Between Wisner's and Numrich I can get a proper extractor, ejector, magazine box, follower and magazine spring; but can the action itself be adequately modified? The action is by no means a collector piece, and I have plenty of standard calibers. Seeing Atkinson's 416, and having recently sold my 458, has got me thinking.

Not even sure if these are required. If you are talking the basic 458Wmag. The action will handle it fine. Same action used for the 06 length magnums. Bolt face will need to be opened. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

bolt face opened up, feed rails opened up, not a hard job for any decent GS

Are there any gunsmiths on this board willing to do so? The few I've asked locally have hemmed and hawed about feeding, modifying the sacred pre-64, etc.

I can do it. It's not a big deal: open bolt face, open rails, tweak extractor and maybe ejector and mag box. Contact me at: Toomanytools@comcast.net John Farner If you haven't, please join the NRA!
