Yes ,it is a rimmed case. The rim is over .600" wide. I have been thinking of this cartridge a bit lately. Will it be much of a hastle getting a pre 64 Mod 70 to chamber and feed a 50 Alaskan. Will it fit in a magazine? I wont worry about it if it will take huge amounts of work. If it is just a matter of opening up the bolt face and minor mods to the mag ,then I will go for it.

I think I saw all the desirable pre 64's at a gun show in Missoula Mt. this weekend. We were visiting the U of M for a graduate school for my daughter and my wife noticed that there was a gun show in progress. Off my son and I went to the show while the women checked the school. One dealer had a rack of pre 64's. Most were in mint to 95% condition. He had a 7.65, a 35 Whelen, a .30 WCF, .220 Swift, .257 roberts, 9mm, .22 Hornet and a few others. The cheapest one was $6,000 and the highest was $9,000. No, I left them there. It was a very good show and I got to spend a nice morning with Brad (Amundson) at Bozeman on the next leg of our trip.
