Does anyone have any experience with lapping Talley rings, or similar rings with a side to side mounting design? Is it a simple matter of mounting the lapping tool as one would mount a scope and "working" it with compound? Any pitfalls to watch out for?

I've never seen a need to lap Talley rings. I install the rings on the scope and they slide right onto the bases without a problem.

Try them first.

I may very slightly hit the inside top edge with a little emory paper but thats it....
