I have an old BRNO action. I cleaned up the outside of the action pretty good, now for the inside. Is there a type of media to stay away from? At work we have a lava rock based media. Would this be to course? Is there a betterway for a do-it-yourselfer?

Thanks
Joel

A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

Got any buddies at an automotive machine shop? You could have 'em glass bead it for you.

The best way is to hand hone it with stones used by mold polishers.....wow..they work but it's a lot of time.

I have had real good results using a blasting media containing a mixture of glass beads and aluminum oxide. Leaves a really nice finish and not too aggressive. You can buy it pre-mixed at most machine shop supply houses. I get mine at Rutland Tool.

Thanks guys, I was pretty sure that the media our shop uses would be pretty aggressive. No way I could convince the upper management to change the media for a rifle action.

MANY years ago when I worked for Armstong Rubber we cleaned aluminum tire molds by bead blasting. When I started with them they used crushed walnut shell but when we built the plant in Calif they switched to glass bead. Really does a beautiful job on aluminum tire molds. I used to bring in Colt 1911's and bead blast them and refinish at home. I got pretty good at blasting the slides on top and high polishing the flats. The walnut shell would be perfect for inside cleaning because it's not an agressive media at all. The glass beads really go thru the nozzles and hose in short order.
