After reading up on some of the horror stories with Wild West Guns of Anchorage I truly regret sending them my rifle for a hard chrome job. It has been over two months since I sent my gun for hard chrome and so far all they can tell me is that the outfit THEY sent the gun to for chroming lost some of the parts and pieces like (rings, cross bolts, bolt, etc) and that they cannot be found. Those parts have been lost for two weeks now that I know of, but WWG apparently does nothing to remedy the situation as they are nothing but rude when I call for an update. No apologies, no explanations, no follow up, no estimated time frame, nothing... WWGuns has the gun itself, but no parts to put it together.
GSP, I think it was that commercial mauser you sent me through them. Kat is a good person, now shes down in AL I believe. If this is the same deal, I apoligize, kat didnt mention any of that to me.
Anyways I dont use them anymore. only reason I did was because of the head smith. Now he quit (told jim to go screw himself).
they have good stuff, I will admit that but the personnel issues have to be taken care of, but then again when the owner is an arrogant prick, cant see much being done about that.

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.
Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."
Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

That is exactly the reason Gary Reeder builds my custom guns. Who needs to be hassled these days when there are plenty of really good custom smiths around. Its amazing that people even deal with assholes like this. Some people just never get it.

About seventeen years ago I moved from Alaska to Anchorage. Shortly after moving to town I visited WWG, talked with the owner for about ten minuets and will never go back to that shop. Ever.
My Dad is getting ready to retire and I would like to find him an honest gun shop in the Anchorage/Palmer area. He does not need custom work done (Im doing it) but he will want to shop for used rifles/shotguns, buy reloading supplies etc. Where would I send him? He lives in Palmer.

Bill, in town I like gunrunners www.gunrunners.com , I've known neils (the owner) for quite a few years, always treated me good.
He also has a pretty current inventory with pics on his website. So your dad (or anybody for that matter) can see if hes got anything they are interested in before leaving the house.

Can't think of a Gun Shop owner who ISN'T a complete nut case Jack Off!! I've been in more than a few shops over the years. One exception was Hendershots's in Maryland. Did some trading over the phone and they were a little slow (read busy) but very pleasant to work with. Got exactly what I wanted with no product issues.

I'm sending a rifle down to the Lower-48 today for some work. There's nobody in Alaska I trust to do work for me. I don't mind paying extra to Fed-Ex for the shipping either. I want quality work & don't want to have to put up with extra crap from someone who has an "attitude". Bear in Fairbanks

Thanks for sharing your experiences with this ridiculous operation known as WWG. I'll keep this site updated with the progress I get out of these clowns. At this point I'll be happy just to get my rifle back in one piece. Never again. I'm open to suggestions for competent & willing gunsmiths within Alaska.
After all the feedback about this company on the web I am shocked anyone does any business with them. I talked with them once and they are without a doubt the rudest group of gun people I ever met in my life.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Every time I inquire I get the same rude response.... "We are as disappointed as you are, we'll call you when we find your gun parts". WWG has now had my primary huntung rifle for almost three months for a straight forward hard-chrome job and cannot explain how my rifle parts were lost, how they plan on tracking them down, or when I can get it back. My gun is held hostage & I have no way of getting it back.

Someone mentioned Gary Reeder, I e-mailed them years ago about a .22 LR cylinder for my S&W mod 53, they wrote back "the 53 is a centerfire and cant be converted to rimfire".
I decided Mr. Gary Reeder and his will never touch anything I own or plan to own. I have been going to Hamilton Bowen every since. Nothing but great service and people at Bowen Custom Arms Corp.

I called to check up again (now three months) and they told me that they had trigger parts on order from CZ for my rifle. They weren't so rude this time, rather apologetic, but still couldn't give me any type of a time estimate. They claim that APW, the outfit that does their hard chrome, lost the trigger assembly and related parts. What a fly-by-night operation, wish I would have done my research first!
How would you have ever known that their supplier would lose something by doing research? From what you have said it seems they are looking for your parts, and they haven't told you they aren't going to do anything for you so they must be working on it. I know you want your gun, I would to, but don't piss them off to the point where they end up making you pay more to get the gun back than its worth.
