I have a 700 with the J-Lock. How do I fix this and how big of a problem actually is it?

Brownells sell non J-Lock complete assemblies (Remington, Gre-Tan, etc)...and if you can field strip your bolt you can swap them yourself with no special tools required.

The Holland and Gre-Tan models are a bit more expensive than the factory assemblies, but they use much better springs, lighter firing pins, and have closer tolerances on the cocking piece and slot.
