I recently purchased a pre-64 Model 70 in 375 H&H and the gun is in the need of a little work. The gun came without the original stock and I would like to have it replaced with cross bolts installed. Also, the 3-position safety is a little wobbly and needs some work or replacing.

Anyone have a gunsmith recommendation, preferably one who does a lot of model 70 work? Thanks in advance.

Wayne and Jim are both good bets if Wayne works on pre-64s. The Model 70 he upgraded for me was a Classic not a pre-64.

If you want to stay local it'd help if you had your location up.

I just started using a local smith that I like but have not seen this kind of work in progress while at his shop. I have seen pictures of finished work that were impressive. His name is Hunter, business is Brown Dog Gunsmithing

Thank you for the recommendations guys. I had looked into Wayne with American Hunting Rifles but was under the impression he mostly worked with the CZs. Although, I have not spoken with him yet. I will reach out to both Jim and Wayne.

BigNate...I'm located in central PA. It would be nice to have someone local do the work, however, I will gladly send the rifle out for quality work.

I think Hammonnds and Bob Green are Remington, BR smiths. I know both and they are good guys. I would personally use a mod 70 guy, Jim Kobe.
