Turner421Ruger barrel swap question
So I swapped out the factory barrel of my ruger precision 308 last weekend. The new LRI Bartel is made for 165/175gr bullets. So would I screw it up if I shot 178gr A-MAX bullets through it?

dpcdHow do you imagine you would screw it up? Just trying to get your thought process clear.
The answer is no.

ColoradoMattA given barrel may have a twist rate ideal for a certain weight range or a lead angle ideal for a certain ogive design, but there should be no problems firing any bullet weight commonly used for the 308.

Turner421I just want sure, LRI said it was made for 165/175gr projectiles. I've never had a match grade barrel, and I've put allot of time and money in it. So I just don't wanna mess it up some how. But what your saying about the twist rate makes since. It has a 1-10 twist rate.

dpcdA one in ten twist rate was developed to stabilize 220 grain bullets. Standard for the .308 is one in 12.
But you can't possibly "screw it up" no matter what weight you shoot; twist rates are only for stabilizing the bullet, affecting accuracy.

Turner421I was hoping that's what you would say. I just don't understand why they say that? Thanks DPCD, I almost just sent you a PM about this, so I didn't look too stupid to everyone. Kinda wish I did, but oh well. Thanks again, you really put my mind at ease.

dpcdThat ship has sailed.....JK.
Your barrel will shoot anything up to over a 200 grainer, VLD bullets, which is why Ruger, and your new maker, chose one in ten.
So it isn't make Only for 168s or 175s. But you certainly can't hurt it by shooting any 30 caliber bullet in it.
