Hi folks, Please take a look at this rifle. What is special about it? Is it really worth $2,928? No, I am not buying it but just curious why would anyone want to pay that much for a factory rifle. Thanks! http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?ItemNum=3694034

Thanks for the reply but no thanks for the $4000 plus used rifle. For this price, I would order myself a brand new Dakota 76 instead. Sorry I am not such of a collector. Best wishes for 2003!

I will bet that the 458 Winchester Super grade could be bought for less and be worth more in the future than the Dakota ever will be. The Winchester is a piece of history, the Dakota is just a copy!IMHO lb404

Whats special about it is that it was made prior to 1964 when Winchester cheapened up production by takeing the hand work out and using machines instead. Add to the fact that its a Super Grade which means more attention to detail and nicer wood adds to the value. The fact that the sling swivel are missing gives the buyer a bartering point but its fairly priced. I have a Super Grade with delux wood in 7X57 and $4000 would touch it. While the Dakota is an excellent gun 40 years from now it will be just another used gun while the Winchester will continue to gain in value.
