Mr Belk,

I've been reviewing your notes on polishing and would like to ask for clarification on which Big India stone to get. It seems that once Silicon carbide was mentioned and another Aluminum oxide.

Which material should I order?

Many Thanks,

Mike

The stone I was talking about is a combination sharpening stone made by Norton. It has a medium India an one side and the "Crystalon" silica carbide on the other.

Since I wrote that I've started using "EDM" stones from MSC. The 180 and 280 grits do about 95% of the rough work, now.

Thanks JBelk.

I was getting confused trying to use the MSC online ordering system. It gives two choices for the Norton Stone one silicon carbide the other aluminum oxide. I finally found the single grit India stone.

id like to add... MSC has a good selection of EDM stones and they are true (strait) stones. Also there soft rapid breakdown Al-O2 stones are good for finishing work. Get your "big Book" copy.
