Are L61R barrels compatible with large or small ring mausers, or can they somehow be made to fit without setting back past the threads? Thanks Matt

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

If memory serves the L61 is 16 TPI and 1.046 shank diameter. The small ring Mauser 12 TPI 55 degree with a .980 diameter shank. The large ring Mauser is 12 TPI 55 degree with a 1.100 inch shank.

Practical double depth of 16 TPI is about .060 inch so you could wipe the threads off the Sako barrel and rethread it to the small ring Mauser. You would have to cut a bit off the thread extension and recut the chamber.

The 98 Mauser no. You would have to knock off the entire thread extension and start from scratch.

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!
