Only one I have or have used is a Savage .17HMR with the weird color laminations made for one of the distributors. Handles good, shoots good, looks good, what more could one ask. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

I love them, but we already know I am twisted. I found a 460 Weatherby built by Harry Lawson for $3000. I am seriously considering it. Would be a fun elk gun.

Have a Revival Industries one on my 10/22 build-up gun, a Richards Thumbhole Target on my long-range piece, a laminated Boyd's set for my T/C Encore and am having finished at a gunsmith's right now a black walnut set for the T/C. I like the way a thumbhole stock puts the rifle in the hand better than the traditional swept wrist of the common rifle. It's much easier on the wrist and transfers the recoil down the arm better. At least for me, it does.

I have one on my 10/22 and love the look, and feel when shooting it. But I absolutely hate the look on centerfire rifles and would never, ever dream of putting one on my hunting rifles.

Not everyone dislikes them! This 1909 Argentine in .25-06 has been hunting with me quite some time.....I built it about 25 years ago The blank came from Fajen /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I have a 1912 Steyr Mauser in .308 Win. in a Harry Lawson very lightweight Mountaineer thumbhole stock. The whole package with scope, sling and a full magazine and one up the spout weighs all of five pounds. The only problem I have with it is when shooting from the bench, it has a tendency to push my hearing muffs away from my ear amking it too noisy to shoot from the bench unless I also use plugs. The weight is nice when I have my fat carcass hiking around above the 9,000 foot MSL level. Paul B.

I will admit that they hold well. But using one is like sleeping w/ a fat girl or riding a moped. It's fun until someone see's you doing it. Damn are they ugly.

Most don't work for me, as I am truely ambidextrous. If the deer comes to my right side, I shoulder on the left and vise-versa. I put them in the "hated it" category. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

Mine despises being carried on a sling.....note that there are no sling swivels on it!!! The pistol grip cap digs badly into the back of the hunter while carried on a sling.... It's quite uncomfortable that way. Best to use a over the shoulder carry or a two hand carry..... I have very bad hands and wrists and the right hand wrist has very little motion.....the thumbhole is a blessing for folks with such handicaps. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
