I live in Pennsylvania. I would like to setup a suppressed rifle in .300 Whisper for hunting. Where can I look to find the regulations for these? Any suggestions on who to contact about making one for me? Any help would be appreciated. Life's too short to carry a gun that you hate!

Contact your Pennsylvania state Att General’s office and the local ATF office in either Philly or Pittsburg.

kimber.204 i too am a pa resident. you are in luck as we, the citizens of pa , can own a supressors. you need to find a class three dealer to handle the paperwork of whatever unit you decide on. i have one and another one on the way. i was told by a warden that as long as you can legally possess the firearm and it is manually operated it can be used for hunting. if i was actually going to do that i would send a letter to the game commision office asking for a ruling and have a copy of it with me when in the field. i have used srt arms for both of mine.

In Wisconsin the hunting regs say that you can not use full auto, silencers, or short barrel rifles for hunting. When I spoke to a Warden he said he wasn't sure about that and would check it out. About a month later he called me back after talking to there legal department and said that as long as I owned them legally I could use them for hunting.

Any government official who would take the time to check this out for you, and then call you back after that peiod of time is rare and thus a keeper! I'd write his boss and thank him for employing someone who is on the ball.

+1 I live in Mississipi. Down here we can own and hunt with them too. I own two, a .22LR and I just took delivery of a Gemtech M4-02 this week. Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

TC1, How do you like your M4-02? I picked up one last year and am pretty happy with it. The only thing I don't like is it tends to loosen and I hate to put loctite on when I know I am going to have to remove it after shooting. (I keep the suppressor in a safety deposit box) Here in VA it looks like we can hunt with suppressed rifles and I am going to build one for next season, possibly a 300 Whisper, 7.62x39, .458 SOCOM or maybe just a 308, I'm not sure yet.

I've only had this one for a few days and haven't shot any subsonic rounds through it yet. The full load rounds make the thing sound like an unsuppressed .22LR! I picked this one after looking at a few quick detach models. I liked the idea of being able to take it off quick, but an extra pound off weight on the end of an already heavy HBAR was very unappealing. The M4-02 is very small and I really like that. I'm sure there is something to put on the threads to hold the can on a little better but not lock it tight. Have you thought about a lock washer? I'm planning on doing a little coyote hunting at the end of deer season with that Colt in the picture. I think I'll just call Gemtech and ask about the unthreading. Price and short OAL were why I went with this model. At the time I was in NC and was going to keep it on my house rifle but now that I am living with my fiancee I can't have it where she can get it if I'm not around. I haven't bothered with any subsonic ammo either, don't really see the need for it .223, I had orginially bought it to for use on ,22s as well but after researching I think I will buy a dedicated .22 can. I guess with discussing how to keep the can tight we are staying in topic for gunsmithing

Yea, I've got a dedicated .22LR can and switch around on a Ruger 10/22, Savage MarkII (super quite) and a Walther P22. I screwed the M$-02 on the Savage and found to my surprise the small .22LR can is quitter than the bigger .223 can. OK, I just got off the phone with Gemtech, they said you can either use a drop of blue loctite or teflon tape at the front (muzzle end) of the threads. They also said they don't have any problems with loosening on their test barrels and suggested my barrel could be right at the small end of being in spec. I'm not so sure about that but I'll try the teflon tape.

Good idea. I'll keep the tape idea in mind if I need it later. Thanks for the info, Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

I've alwyas wanted to do a "Terminator" shoot with my Uzi in one hand and either my Mac 10 or M16 in the other full auto at a bunch of pigs, just to see how many I miss.....errrr hit... There are two types of people in the world: those that get things done and those who make excuses. There are no others.

Terry, where do you keep the batteries to light up that hot red barrel.

Kinda stands out doesn't it That is the neatest barrel though and extremely accurate. It's aluminum with a stainless steel insert. It's light enough to wear on a keychain. Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

While it's not a rifle it's a hunting gun. The silencer is a maxium and I use it on a little 22 rifle but I didn't want to thread the woodsman bbl so Dad made the adaptor. The inside is tapered for the bbl. and the lock rings pull up tight against the front sight and there is a rubber o ring at the end.
