Depends on what you are going to do with the rifle...a single-shot OK or does it need to be a repeater? I like the Remington 700 ADL as you save some weight by not having a floorplate....there are also some aftermarket replacement parts that are lighter in weight. I would stay away from the Model 7 as I have seen some that were very poorly done at the factory....the good ones shoot great but I'm not impressed with the quality control.

Winchester has made Compact Classics actions that could handle the .260 quite handily. If that isn't a good action in your opinion, Ruger has a compact version of the M-77 available that you can actually buy chambered for the .260. Myself I prefer something not limited to the 2.8" maximum now in vogue, I think a 3" maximum would be much better for any short action cartridge.

Thanks for the input. The 'dream' I had was something along the lines of a Kifaru Rambling rifle for pack in trips. I think it would be neat to build a rifle that weighs less than or about 5 pounds with the scope. Make for a nice carrying rifle. If I'm lucky I'll get to see this dream materialize in about...20 years!!!! Us college students are short on money and long on dreams and ideas.
