SDH, I know you are doing some work on a Hagn action now, rounding it down a little to make the Medium action more similar to the small action. That got me thinking about the Ruger No.1 "one size fits all" action. How much could the No.1 be trimmed down and rounded to make it petite as possible. I've got a No.1 RSI in 7x57 and feel it would benefit greatly in reducing the size of the action, as well as tightening up the lever and squaring it up. I'm wanting to build a custom on this rifle, maybe with a Ralf Martini swamped barrel with integral quarter rib and front sight base, along with the action work and AAA or exhibition wood, full length fore stock, of course. I noticed Don Klein really modified and rounded a Hagn on his website and was thinking that type of modification to the Ruger might be interesting. Here's an image of the Klein Hagn. What are your thoughts to modifying, reducing the No.1's action size, and rounding it?

Thanks very much. Figured it would require more work than it's worth, or that I'm willing to pay for! I do have your book, bought it from you at SCI at few years ago. I did not know they sidelever was the only No.1 you had worked. I love that sidelever though. Nice piece of timber on that one. I can appreciate your quest to figure out something besides the half ellipse for the stock work coming from the action. Glad Hagn has my action set back. I will try to get to Reno, but am just coming off back surgery, so we'll see it how it's going, then. I think we've about got all the details nailed down on that one, except for a few minor things.

Steve, Taj caught single shot fever in Zambia due to unsupervised hunting with a borrowed Dakota #10 in 9.3x74. After using it on a few buffalo he says it is all a hunter needs. Will look foreward to seeing you and DP in Reno. Sounds like another evening of fun. Taj is hoping to be able to make it too if he can scrounge up the $$ for a plane ticket from Zambia. I saw the rough draft of Wieland's book but havn't seen it with all the pretty photos. Thanks guys. Got a copy of Terry's book a few weeks ago, but reading it has been interrupted by Bill Quimby's book on Hubert Thummler, "Wind In My Face".
