Need Help on Dakota 97 action

Hello !
I am the first time on this forum.
I have seen a Dakota 97 action at the Brownells
catalog!

My questions are:

1. Does the action fit remington ADL short action replacement stocks(Hogue)?

2. Is the action drilled to fit Leupold scope bases for Remington ADL ?

3. Do you have any experience (good or bad)
with these actions?

4. What about the "recoil lug"
(Installation?)

I ask the questions, because the catalog
advertises the action to be a hybrid between
Dakota 76 and Remington 700 actions!

I want to have a rifle built in 358 Win short action with a 19,5 or 20 inch barrel.

I want to shoot Barnes 180 gr. or 200 gr.
X Bullets.

Which twist rate shall I choose?
Why does shilen only offer 14 twist?
I think 10 will be better.

What are your opinions?

Thanks!

Jockel,
I dont have experience with the dakota action, but you said 358!!! And then configured it the way i like them. I'll give you my 2 on this, if you like.

you can start with a mod7, if you like rem, or a win mod70 or a cz in 308 for a true crf... any are great choices and your completed gun will be around the cost of the dakota action alone.

The first 358 I built, I built to shoot barnes X 225.. which are rediculosly long. I ordered a douglas 1x10 twist, 22" know it would be slightly higher pressure, and since I would be shooting barnes, i knew the bullet OAL would have to be longer ( alittle). the 1x10 was to insure that I could shoot all the barnes bullets, and that one does shoot 225x nice, but it LOVES 200 X bullets and sierra 225 game kings

this allowed me to make my lastest 358 off a mex mauser (short) and it's a dream

so, you can do the following
a 20" #2 contour doulas 1x12 or 1x10, pacnor as well. shilen aint willin to do custom twist

recess target crown (i am assuming you are making a stalking gun, and this is a pretty deep crown)

necg barrel band front sight

and/or nice scope

ashley outdoors rear peer sight

(stock is your choice, and if the stock stock fits you, great)

"trigger job"

you can get 2500fps with 225 sierras from that rig, and it's LIGHT, and very handy

Hello Jeffeosso!

Thanks for your answer!

I have got one more question:

If I choose the faster twist 1X10,
do you think that the lighter bullets,
f. e. 180 gr. will still "work"(accuracy)?
(and the other way round 1X12 225 gr. Barnes)
Regards

Jockel,
The 180s are light for caliber, but shoot fine.. the 158 hp pistol bullets, at 2900, shoot 2" at 100.. not a true varmit load, but EXPLODE rabbits.

I think the 1x12 is perfect, btw, as I know I'll never shoot a barnes 250 (does that exist?) and will stabilize the other ones.

Hello Jeffe,
Thanks,
I will give you some information, how the "story
goes on, when the gun is ready for hunting!

I hope it will be a good performer on
wild hogs.

So far...
