After reading Frank Beller's review on Jim Kobe's good service I decided to have him put a two position Winchester style safety on my Parker Hale .458 rifle to replace the military style flag safety.

After buying one of the Midway shipping boxes (which is a pretty nice setup too) I handed the action off to the care of UPS and sat back for the usual wait. On the day it arrived at Jim's shop I got an e-mail from UPS announcing that they were bringing it back!

It's back today in under a week, looks and functions great. Smiler

Now to put the Leupold 2.5x on that rifle and go groundhog hunting. Wink

beer to Jim

Well apparently he does a better job on safeties than he does on bolt handles.

Mike,
Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Rem721,
This looks like something Paul Mauser would have approved of and works like a charm. I feel like I was treated very professionally.

Dempsey,
You should see my work with the Dremel from Hell. shocker

Dempsey, you lying phuck. I never made it to sixth grade.

I have seen two of Jim's bolts and neither was welded on the underside. Both also had a lot of file marks and were poorly polished. In both cases the owner was not happy. Why one wouldn't make the effort to weld up the bottom of the root where the new handle attaches is beyond me. Half the work for half the price?

Rick, I'm glad to hear that the safety works as you expected. One cannot ask for more.

Once again 721 is spreading sunshine upon the Gunsmithing forum! As much as you badmouth others work, you must be one hell of a 'smith! How about posting photo's of some of your finer work? I don't know Kobe from Adam, and certainly not a 'smith myself...just making an observation.

To borrow from 22wrf's book, you wouldn't have to be a helluva smith to see an unwelded joint. That is simply cutting corners. If that is your preference, then you've found your smith. There's a right way and a wrong way, and that is just wrong.

I just had to go to the safe and check mine that Jim did. He must have phuqued up mine as it is welded all the way around and polished.
I asked you in an earlier post to go back and look at your posts. You must be a very miserable person.

Did it ever occur to you he might take short cuts when convenient?

I get slammed for making a statement of fact, not opinion. Condemn me all you want. I assure you I'm far from miserable.

Perhaps I can set the record straight for Mr Rem721. I did, in fact, weld a few of the bolts like he described. The weld on the underside of the bolt handle was a little difficult, but not impossible to get to. At the time I was having a hard time welding that area and have since taken some lessons from a very knowledgeable welder. I no longer leave that portion unwelded. As for the polishing, I have stated that final polishing is always needed.

One final note. I have professed for years longer than I can remember; I can make a mistake sometime and this was one of them. With that in mind, I have also stated without reservation that you will be happy with my work, PERIOD. If not, I will make it right.

Funny thing too, I have not heard from the offended party, only from some miserable individual who is getting his info second hand.

Don't be too concerned about rem721 Jim as he's a crackpot and a former banned butthed. His first few posts on AR were to attack and discredit others. He has no credibility and quickly joined a very short list of folks on my ignore list!

Lighten up guys. Very few people on this forum have yelled at me more than Kobe and 721, and yet I still consider both friends. Moreover, I must have the most people who have me on ignore, I have nobody on ignore, and I consider all those who put me on ignore as friends.

I often think how wonderful it would be in my job if every time I didn't like what the other guy was saying I could put them on ignore and go on. But no discourse would ever happen, no work would ever get done, and it would be a dull life.

Kobe admitted he did some less than stellar work. He now says he doesn't do that anymore.
Good enough for me. Lets move on. Big Grin

Some people don't like confrontation and would rather just pay someone else to do it right. And the fact is you admit that you did some bolts in this manner. If you have changed and are now doing them right, then great. Again, I did nothing more than state a fact.
