I had some new bases made for my Model 70 but the spacing came out different than the standard Talleys and therefore the Brockman pop-up peep will not work with the new bases and scope configuration. I know Talley makes a peep sight, and that looks fine, but they mention some 'fitting' on the website. Have sent an email but wondering if anyone here has used one to know what the fitting is or knows of another peep that will fir the Talley bases. Thanks, Baxter

Fitting the Talley involves milling down the rear recoil shoulder on the rear base so that the Talley peep slides on. Talley base dovetails vary in width and you have to have the proper match between peep and base width as well as the machine work. Might have a pic somewhere ...

You also have to drill a shallow depression in the right dovetail rail where the thumbscrew locks the peep to the dovetail. The vertical projection of the rear recoil shoulder must be milled/filed down flush with the dovetail as it is between the recoil shoulders. You can do it with files and a padded vice and a drill press if you are careful, and if you have the proper base to match the dovetails of base to peep. A Smith at Dakota Arms did these, and Kevin Jenkins put the finish on all the metal to match, a dark gray Gunkote looking similar to Parkerizing: 395 Tatanka on M76 Dakota African Action
