Is there a good place to get parts for a Shop Fox toy lathe. I need to mount a drill chuck in the tail stock. It is smaller than a MT-1. I need to chuck "L" size drill bits, and then a 5/16-36 Tap. Any help is very much appreciated. At least I have the 14x40 lathe as a back up. It won't fit on the kitchen table as easily. I bought the Shop Fox from Idaho Sharp Shooter. I would ask him, but he has been quite testy with me lately, he, he.

You can buy most taper blanks (quills) online to fit any chuck you want. Just buy an generic chuck that fits your needs from grizzly or Harbor Freight and then the necessary quill. Toss the quill in the deep freeze for a couple of hours, knock it into the back of the chuck and it's there for life.

What model shop fox is it? I take it that it's a metal lathe, not wood?

I am walking next door in an hour to check on it, and measure the tailstock. It is designed for metal work. I think I will also pick up some carbide tooling. I plan on using it for cutting pillars to length, and of course, modifying oddball cases for the Hornady OAL tooling.

One nice thing is that it has a rheostat for rpm control, and can be reversed easily. I might even use it to cut cannelures in bullets, just to do it.

I got some things sorted out. This is a Shop Fox model M1015, 6"x10" metal mini lathe (micro). Tail stock taper is #1MT. I did order a Jacobs style drill chuck for it. I nabbed five carbide cutting and threading tools (Mainly to cut bedding pillars to length.) I did get a 5/16" Chuck Key. That is nice. The guy I lent it to lost ('er, misplaced) the HSS tooling. The only thing I'm looking for now is a piece called a crescent base for changing the angle up or down (nod) of the lathe cutting and threading tools.

The spindle bore is only 3/8", so I will have to use the big lathe for belted magnums on up. That still leaves a gazillion .378" and probably .440" cases. It's not like they make a steady rest for this bad boy, oh well. I may be able to drill out berdan primer holes, and make threaded inserts in order to use Boxer primers in my old Kynoch cases. Waste of time, to be sure, but great fun anyway.
