OK the Short Story. When you make your pillars for pillar bedding, put some circumferential grooves in them. i have a darn accurate 22 rimfire. I notices slop in the stock action fit up and today i pushed BOTH pillars out of the stock by HAND and was distgusted with myself. neither pillar had grooves on the outside surface. let me by the only one that makes this mistake!!!!

Good point Nate. Another way is a good roughing up of the pillar walls with 60 grit sandpaper. All it takes is the slightest mechanical grip and a good degreasing. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

On the last Mauser I bedded, I used threaded lamp tubing to pass the rear guard through. There's no way it's coming loose. If It Doesn't Feed, It's Junk.

I make my own pillars from stainless steel and I knurl them first and then also turn grooves into them to allow for a good bonding surface for the bedding material. I use Devcon 5 minute titanium epoxy on the pillars and I defy anyone to push one of them out without taking a good portion of the stock with em.

I turn mine form SS & set tool below center with a fast feed & speed so that the OD is rough as a corn cob. Doug Humbarger NRA Life member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 72'73. Yankee Station Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.
