Anyone converted a 70 to say, 338 Ultra, or actually disected a custom gun that had been?

Just wondering what one would run into. Would the magazine box need widening or "windowed"? Feed rails altered?

Just wondering. Seems like a 338 Ultra in a Model 70 would make a neat Plains game rifle.

Joe.

Since the M70 is chambered for the .300 Ultramag I'd imagine it would be a simple matter of a barrel swap to get the .338 ultramag.

Hello JMAC.
I've planned to change barrel in my Win. m70, pre'64, SS, from 338 win Mag to 338 RUM.
I had a talk with my gunsmith about this, and he said; NO PROBLEM!!
(the only problem now is money)
I'm not sure if I should choose 338 RUM, or the 338/404 (full lenght and slightly bigger casehead)better known as the 338 Imperial Magnum. This because of the access of brass. NORMA makes 404 Jeffery brass, and thats much better than Remington brass!!
