GSP7rifle shipping cost?
I havent shipped a rifle before just recieved.
Whats the usual cost for USPS United states Postal sevice. Is it about $15 bucks? I think sellers usually add $25 but thats probably more than it realy cost

Bill SovernsDepends on where its going....$25 is not out of line considering insurance.

ElCaballero$25 is about right if you plan on insurance.

AZ PeteGo to USPS.com and put in the weight of the package and the amount of insurance, with origin and destination zip codes and you will have the exact postage by what ever postal means you choose.
I just sent a M-70 from AZ to MT, Priority Mail, insured for $700 and spent about $30.00.

DwightI shipped one this week. 15 for postage and 15 for insurance.

vapodogcan someone explain why we need to insure the packages we send?...If we entrust them to (as an example) UPS then they are responsible for them.....they should insure them.....not the sender!

JohnHuntThey do... for $100. But if you want more if it is damaged or lost then you have to pay.

GSP7I wonder about insuring anyway. Heck they wont pay for a damaged firearm any way. why buy the insurance

seafire/B17GWell, I can tell you, working around that industry for a while...
that UPS FedEx, the USPS... pay out about 2% of all the money, that they receive in insurance claims...
so make your decision on that....
Not firearms.. but for my business, I shipped two items to a customer in Lincoln Neb...
Fed Ex, had the balls to call me up and tell me that the Boxes made it to Lincoln, but NOT the contents... so did I want them to deliver the EMPTY BOXES TO THE CUSTOMER???
Then they tell me, that despite my answer of NO... that they delivered them anyway... and then when I filed the claim for $500.00 that it was insured for... they denied the claim, stating that they had delivered the boxes.. even tho the contents weren't in them.. so they have insured the boxes.. not the contents!!!!!
I even called Fed Ex's Office of the President and got jerked around there...
I will personally never send a dam thing via Fed Ex!!!!! They can kiss my ass!!!!

SnowwolfeI have had a few things broked while shipping them insured through the Post Office. Claims were paid to me within 30 days in all instances.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

DwightThe postmaster did tell me that if insuring the rifle you must have a copy of the receipt or the insurance was worthless at USPS.

DB BillI just sent a box with a shotgun stock and forearm in it from LA to Kansas...went Priority Mail insured for $1300 and it cost me $23 and change.
Insurance is the biggie but you better have it.

SSTThis morning I shipped a rifle in a hard case from Kansas City to Phoenix via the U.S Postal Service. The total weight of the box was under 17 pounds. 2 day Priority mail was $23.00 plus $17.00 for $1500.00 insurance. 6 day Parcel Post would have been $16.00 plus insurance, plus an over size surcharge (included in Priority Mail pricing).
UPS told me this morning that they won't even ship a firearm anymore, if they know that's what's in the box.

eddieharrenI just shipped a rifle from Maryland to NY on Tuesday. UPS, next day, insured for $2000.00. $62.50. UPS will ship rifles and I have been using them for years. They are just very expensive. I usually use USPS but in this case the customer was insistant that I use UPS and "Next Day" even though Maryland to NY is 1 day with "ground".

SSTeddieharren,
I wonder why UPS told me a different story. Is there a written company policy that all stores abide by, or does it depend on every manager's interpretation??
02 December 2006, 16:26
eddieharrenSST, I don't know. When I first started using UPS (it is an actual terminal, not a store front operation) I provided them with a file copy of my FFL and, they entered it in my user file. I think some of the store front operations are like franchises, policy is probably left up to the operator. I still prefer USPS. They are cheaper and they ship ground to Alaska.

GSP7I was at the UPS shipping center yesturday and there were several posters on the wall ... "Restricted Items for shipping" " Chemicals, explosives, firearms etc".
I didnt ask what the restrictions were on firearms because it was a Calif UPS and didnt want to cause a scene with all the possible anti gun liberals that were probably standing in line
