Hello Guys

Sorta considering options for something a bit different. Has anyone done (or seen/handled etc) a rifle like this in a lighter calibre (my thoughts tend towards a 250-3000 probably with a blind mag).

I'd love to see some photos of how a "slim" rifle like this should look.

Cheers

Foster

The NULA rifles pretty well define that genre. Most of the pictures are hard to decipher because there is no standard rifle in the picture for comparison. They take 2 magnums down or three standard rounds.

A "K"actioned 250-3000 by Mauser or Fred Adolph is about as classic as it gets&a good start to see the correct proportions.Itll knock your socks offX2-once when you see one&once when they quote the price.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

The short Mauser would certainly be the cats meowl but given that they are as rare as hens teeth and as dear as poison, to me they'll have to stay a "pun".

My thoughts tend to a seriously worked over Brno ZKK 601 - rare in the US but common here. I'm thinking single set trigger, take down and blind mag with the stock join at the front of the recoil lug. I've never seen one of these that have been really smithed but they are sound enough and certainly better than some actions that can be "dressed up".

Still looking for pictures.

I kind of think my Kimber Montana in 7MM08 fits that discription.260 would be a great caliber also. Big Grin

This has always beeen one of my favorites:

It's a 7x57mm caliber Brazilian M1908 Mauser 98 with one half inch cut off the top of the magazine box, the receiver ring sides ground to small ring contour and the military barrel and stock both trimmed way down.

Built by Ken Ide for himself and featured in the 2000 Gun Digest. Weighs 5.75 lbs. with scope.

Sounds like you are looking in the Mauser direction. I've considered having a Kimber model 84M rebarreled to 250 Savage. It is not a mauser, but certainly Mauseresque. The 84m action is sized specificaly for the 308 based cartridges, and bare rifle weight is around 5 and 1/4 pounds. Go with a 1-in-9" rifleing twist so that bullets over 100 grains, or the long plastic tiped bullets, will stabilize better. Kimber came out with the 84M in 257 Roberts this year. Unless you are just iching for a full on custom, the Kimber Super America model is a very nice "Semi-Custom" rifle, and close to what you are looking for in bullet performance. They tend to sell for just under 2K American in the states. I have a G33/40 action that is "seasoning". I plan a 257 Roberts project with it in the distant future. Good luck with your project. Matt

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

Mini mauser in the Grendel would be a sweet little walking around rifle, or even a 223AI could be done up nice and light.

A 250AI will get the job done.
I just had one put together; NICE. Easy on the shoulder too.

Hello Guys

I've been away a few days, hence no feedback. I perhaps should have mentioned that I have almost finished a "nice" VZ-33 (same as a G33-40) in 257R. It has a 24" tube and will be my designated mountain rifle (what we use mostly over here). I also have a 303-25 Lee Enfield "truck gun", its a plain shorty, but lacks in snob value, to put it bluntly.

While I was away I checked out the ZKK 601, and decided I don't really like them. Kimbers and Rems with the separate recoil lug don't do it for me either.

So . . any other ideas
