What could be done with this.
I came across a Sako 995 chambered in 30-378 Weatherby. I really don't want anything in that caliber but the price is just about too good to let it get away.

If I wanted to rebarrel it what caliber would you go with?

The 378 base is larger than a normal mag so you would be limited to something based on the 378 case.

As usual just my $.02

I looked at a couple of reloading manuals and came up with the same thing you said. A 416 Rigby might work but don't know if it would fit into the magazine box. Also I would rather have CRF for a round like the Rigby.

You could re-barrel it to a .17/378! LOL!

If I did not already have a 358 STA a 358/378 would be interesting.

I have a round of 22-378 ammo, the owner said he got around 200 rounds per barrel with I think he said 75 grain match ammo goin' 7000 fps or around there.

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

The .378 Wea. and .460 Wea. are built on .416 Rigby cases with a belt. Any magazine that will hold those two should take a Rigby round with no problems....

I really can't see any reason to use the big W case for anything smaller than a 45. So the options would be 460 Whetherby, 475 A&M, 500 Asquare or 550 magnum. 50's are fun, and you can long throat it for milsurp.

The only thing that worries me about going with a large thumper in this rifle is the recoil lug or lack of one.

Don't let that stop you. Recoil lugs can be made and attached to anything.
