I was just dreaming about converting my Sauer 202 7mm rem mag to the Lazzeroni Firebird 7.21(.284) cartridge. Would the main problem be, that seeing as the Lazzeroni cartridge is unkown here, that the gunsmith would not know that to build to? Can a gunsmith make the modifications if I can gim him a Firebird cartridge to "model" from? Also, would the action on my Sauer be strong enough, considering that the Lazzeroni 7mm probalbly creates a whole lot more pressure? If that is the case, I have another Sauer in 300WBY mag, could I use the 300 action and swap the 7mm barrel over? Sorry if this all sounds a bit silly, I dont know much about this aspect of guns...but I am trying to learn. Thanks.

The 7.21 will require the bolt face to be opened up, extensive magazine box alteration, and shares of stock in a powder company! I have a Sako in 7.21 in the shop now, I will try to take some measurements and let you know. The brass I have has a rim of .576, a datum line dimension of .574- shoulder .558, case lenght of 2.8 and a loaded OAL of 3.635 hope this helps. www.duanesguns.com [ 06-12-2002, 07:17: Message edited by: DuaneinND ]

The case head dimension is 0.577" and there isn't much taper in the case plus it is long...about the same length as the Ultra-Mag series (and the .375 H&H). Lazzeroni pressures run the same as the othr magnums...in the range of 65,000 psi but the problem is bolt-thrust with the smaller diameter bolts like you have. Lazzeroni uses the McMillan MCRT action which is specially designed for the bigger head size. They also don't tend to feed very well out of a regular magazine. If I couldn't use the McMillan action I wouldn't use any other except perhaps a single-shot like the Ruber #1.

Why not just take a CZ 416 Rigby and rebbl?

I had my eye on a very nice .416 rigby at a gunshow a few months ago. Would that action take the Lazzaroni cartridges without any modifications other than the barrel? In that case I could keep the .416 barrel and how much trouble is it to swap them over?
