Got a low number model 54 winchester 30-06. The trigger is two stage and a bit stiff. Is the trigger on the 54 easily adjustable as in the mod 70? Someone said that the 54 did not use as good a grade of steel as in the mod 70 and I should load lighter for this reason. Any truth to that? Thanks "D"

Even if the steel is not as strong as the Model 70 you can still load any factory cartridge into it. The .30-06 has been standardized for almost 100 years, so when your 54 was made it was design to fire at the same pressure levels as todays rifles are. I would not load it hotter than any reloading manual suggest as maximum tho.

D-hunter I thought we talked about this before. Its not the steel its the bolt design. Please give me your e- mail and I will fax that info that I forgot to do before. MD PS that bolt is stronger than S***..

I understand there were some modifications later in the series. Mine was from the first year, 1925. I think it is a sniper model. It being a early number made me think it might not be as strong. I understand the trigger is not adjustable. Good hunting. "D"
