I know this isn't the classifieds, but I want to ask this where the riflemen hang out. I am looking for old Lyman and Redfield peep sights and thought some of you may something squirreled away drawing dust. I am especially interested in finding a Lyman model 38 WR, which fits a Winchester model 95. I am also trying to find a Lyman 36 R, that fits a Mosin rifle. Any leads or info would be appreciated. please note I ain't looking for family heirlooms or desire to take a lien out on the homestead to finance one of these sights! Thanks.

Jumptrap, now there is a name from out of my memories of the coffee shop. Long time, welcome. I would second the recommendation for Garry Fellers, you might watch ebay also. [ 08-29-2003, 05:06: Message edited by: Customstox ]

Jump..coming up with a peep for the Winchester 95 is quite a challenge. Buffalo Arms lists a Ukaranian made replica of the Lyman 36. The price tag is $150.00. I called them about ten months ago and they were waiting delivery. I don't know if they arrived or not. It was said the the new Lyman 66 for the Winchester 86 would fit the 95 and so I ordered one. I sent it back because it would not fit. Many many moons ago both Redfield and Pacific made receiver sights for the 95 and I have only seen one or two for sale at a price out of this world. That leave just one option I can find and that is the XS (formerly Ashley) sight. As I type, a Browning 1895 (Win. clone) that is having the bolt drilled and tapped for one of these sights.

customstox, long time since the coffeeshop went tits up....you know I am still wearing one of their T shirts Alicin sent out! I bet those Ukranian repro's are the same as the Soviets used on their Olympic Mosins. I also bet they are making them for $20 and the importer is hoping to make a killing! Gary Fellers thinks more of his sights than he does of his wife.....just price one of them. As for the Lyman 66, I have a 95 Winny repro in 35 whelen wearing a 66.......it was installed by Dennis Olsen when he rebarreled it, works fine, just don't look original like a climbin' Lyman. I work too hard for my script to pass it out in handfuls because some nut has declared these old sights as 'rare' vintage' or antique. I'll die and go to a devil's Hell before I'll pay $300+ for a Lyman 38 to fit my 95. I can remember when this 'junk' could be had for whatever you'd offer for it because nobody wanted them.......most any gunsmith had a Roi Tan cigar box full of them, drawing dust and rust. You're right, guess I didn't want them that bad afterall. HAR!

Jumptrap, $300 is very steep. I will keep my eyes open for you. I have seen them on occasion but will pay more attention to the price next time. Take care and good to see your found your way out of the hills and here.

$300.00 for that sight is about on par for what I have seen. You might find one cheaper, but it is becoming a rarity. I know it's high, but prices for everything are through the roof. Hell, 20 years ago I bought a 95 Winchester in 35 Win. with that sight for $450.00. Friend, those days are long gone.
