Bushing Mauser bolt face

I have a pretty little Mannlicher stocked Mauser chambered in .257 Roberts. It was built on an FN military action and the bolt face has primer erosion both a ring around the firing pin hole and three grooves radiating out from the hole. The grooves are deep enough that the primers flow into them. I could have another bolt fit to it but I'd like to keep the original. Does anyone here now of a gunsmith who would bush the face of a mauser bolt to fix the problem? I've attempted to search but all I'm finding are firing pin alignment discussions. Thanks

You can fix it 2 ways, machine the bolt face and screw in a bushing then adjust headspace to suit, or weld up and machine the bolt face to the original dimensions. One is far more expensive than the other.

Cheers.

Forgot to add a third method, remove bolt head at the lugs, thread the leftover bolt, make a new bolt head, screw it in and set headspace off that.

Cheers.

I don't know where you are and what industry is around you. But I have a shop here that does laser welding. Last bolt face they welded I could have resurfaced with a stone as it was only about .010" proud. They weld under a 20x microscope and it stays so cool the operator can hold it in his hand by the lugs during welding.

What else have you had them do? Can they fill pits on receiver rings, etc.? How expensive are they?

They filled in holes in the sides of a pre64 model 70. The engraver said it was nicer to engrave the weld than the base metal and wanted the contact info. Other than that pits and various other items such as extending case rims and enfield bolts to enhance feeding. That think they were around $150 an hour. But most these places are walk in businesses only and won't deal with shipping etc. it is interesting to see these $200k welder work in the hands on a good operator.

Don

If they don't do mail order it might be a good sideline business for you. Receiving stuff, getting it welded, and then sending it back.

I wonder how much they can get done in an hour?

Maybe for someone with more time than me. Between full time work and family I can't even keep the machines I have spinning.

I WISH I lived down the street from a friend that had machines but was too busy to use them! Cool

Merry Christmas, Don!
