We get quite a few European made actions, they have the front of the actions is rounded, and the barrels are fitted inside the actions.

Not sure how to explain this, the diameter of the outside of the barrel is threaded.

Unlike others where the threaded part is of smaller diameter.

Yesterday I re-barreled a BRNO 527.

I square the from of the action so it is flat, and the new barrel butts against this when installed.

Had one of our local gunsmiths here, and told me he never does this.

Just wondered if any of you gentlemen do this.

The difference is one of an action having an inner shoulder for the barrel to butt against, vs one like modern designed actions, that only have the front of the receiver ring to hold the barrel.
Mauser fitted barrels to the inner shoulder only.
I make it harder and do both; true the front of the ring, and make the barrel bear against both the inner shoulder and the front of the ring. No good reason to do that.
Either way will work fine.
I think that was it; maybe not.

Yes.

This what I don't like to do, so I modify it by squaring the front of the action.

First time I did this was on a BRNO 223, and I wanted to avoid turning the barrel shank down to fit, so I did it the way I mentioned.

The friend who was here the other day is convinced now and said he will do this in the future.

There's got to be a shoulder somewhere; the threads don't just float.
