Okay folks..
I've tried 2 strippers.. critirstrip and safeest stripper, on MY featherweight model 70 win stock... i've left it on for 24hours.. and only succeeded in DULLING the finish...

so, How do either
1: REMOVE the plastic cladding
2: duplicate it?

if it's that durable, i'd keep it..... anything that can beat back two doses of paint stripper, can sure whip the weather.....

Jeffe,
Try Jasco Premium Paint and Epoxy Remover. It will take off the Gorilla Snott finish off a Weatherby.

I'll second the Jasco. That crap will strip just about anything. Great for high-gloss BDL's and them ugly Weatherbys [Big Grin]

aircraft stripper.......will get it off but it might cost more than the stock is worth. Can be bought at most body shop supplies.

Get one of those 1100-degree heat guns; those buggers will strip anything and right now-- no waiting. Just heat up the finish until it bubbles and then remove the heat. The bubbled-up finish will remain slimy and soft for a few seconds, then cool to a crispy crust which you can scrape away with a stiff plastic scraper blade and steel tools never touch your stock. Take it easy at first to see how hot the heat gun will get and how fast the finish will bubble, then once you know your limits, go for it. Heat guns are great-- my dad used one to remove paint on our windows that had been there 35 years; it fairly blew the paint off 'em. [Eek!]
