At the local gun show this weekend I saw a real cool Ruger rifle, it was like a 77II, with CRF, but it had the tang safety. Were all tang safety Ruger 77's CRF? What was this model called? The one that they had there was in 250-3000, great little caliber for a girl. if my fiance liked bolt actions I would get it for her, but she wants a lever action. Red

The original rugers were M77's...the MkII's were the designation of the later produced rifles with true CRF and 3 position safeties. The tang safety Ruger's were a combo of both. Not a true control feed, but more like a controlled round extractor. You could insert a bullet in the chamber and close the bolt, so no...it's not a true CRF. But, if it was for a good price, snatch it up in a heartbeat. The older Rugers were much more solidly built than the newer MkII's IMHO. And what an interesting caliber too...it's a gem of an opportunity if I've ever seen one. [ 08-26-2003, 00:35: Message edited by: the444shooter ]

Snatch it up! The best thing about the tang safety is its "right there" no need to reach up the the rear of the receiver to go hot. But IMHO the 3 pos win style is very classy. Andrew

Our local gun shop has that same rifle on the shelf for $425. A nice littel .250 Savage with the shorter barrel and tang safety. What a wonderful-feeling rifle. Sure wish I had a reason to buy it, but the wife already has the same model in .257 Roberts, so she shot me down!

I bought a Ruger M77 .250 Savage a couple of years back, and put it in my "grandson" collection to pass forward when the next grandson gets ready for it. The first one received a Rem M7 Youth in 6mm Rem. My wife and I have four grandsons between us (so far), but perhaps a granddaughter will come along too. This is a great little rifle, and I would buy it too. jim dodd
