Well, for a lack of anything better to do today, I decided to remove the synthetic stock from my 700 ADL and see about free floating the barrel. I sanded down the two little square humps that were there for upward pressure. Now the barrel is touching on the left side-- Damn! Is there an easy fix for this, besides sanding the crap out of that side of the barrel channel? Thanks, Super Bon Bon

Center the action to where the barrel doesn't touch the stock and then put a bead of black silicon between the forend tip and the barrel, tightening the action screws normally. I freefloated my ADL but did not like the flexible stock moving to touchthe barrel so I sort of glued them together with silicon. It stiffened the stock and was one of the most accurate factory rifles I ever owned. Ialso waxed the heckout of the barreledaction before I put it together to keep any rust from happeneing. Oddly siliconbonds well to a waxed surface. Youcaneasilyseperate the stock from the barrel by sawing thru the silicon with some fishing line. I brought a 700 adl syt in 300 wm a few years back. When I frist shot it would not group into 8 inchs at a 100. I glass bedded it free floated it. Now with its best loads well do under .750 all day. I bedded the action and the first 3 inchs of the barrel in front of the reciver.

I doubt I'll be floating the bbl on my M700 ADL Syn. any time soon since I'm getting .5 inch groups. But, I have noticed when I took mine apart that my bbl only touched on one of the little square bumps, not both. I think Rem must be using el cheapo synthetic stocks that aren't perfectly straight. I would think you can fix it with one of those handy little tools though. Good luck. FiSTers... Running is useless.

No, you have to sand the crap out of the barrel chanel. Takes 10 minutes, a wooden dowel and a piece of sandpaper is all you need. My Tupperware Special had the same problem and that is how I fixed it. ZM
