What is the best way to repair shallow scratches in a wood stock? Its a kimber so I believe its a oil rubbed finish. Thanks.

Depending on if your Kimber is an Oregon gun or a New York gun....most Kimber of Oregon Rifles did NOT have an oil finish. I personally applied the finish to every rifle stock July 81-July 87. Several Kimber of America stocks were oil finished. There are Kimber MFG of Yonkers, N.Y. with oil finishes. A true oil finish can be steamed out using water/cotton cloth/steam iron. Then light sanding and application of either Tung Oil or Linseed oil will complete the job. That is a simple explanation but multiple coats may be needed to bring the finish back to where you like it to be. The branded Tru-Oil has poly in high concentration and will change the way the stock looks without using another abrasive to break the finish reflective properties.

The method I've used. Steam and then use: Brownells 5f stock rubbing compound.

Thank you. That experience was part of my "apprenticeship" into this business. From Kimber there have been many years of education via the "University of Hard Knocks" and other imput of valued craftsman...Darwin Hensley, Al Lind, Jim Coffin, Fred Wenig, Donnie Gemes, Kathy Forster, Pat Taylor....the list goes on.
