I have an 1888 45/70 trapdoor I would really like to turn into a shooter but the barrel interior is badly rusted/pitted. Still shoots but not well. Bullets don't keyhole but accuracy is gone. I have looked online for a 45/70 barrel liner but it seems the largest offered is 44/40 and shorter than the barrel length. Does anyone make replacement barrels for these? Could someone reline the original?

Try Friestchultz shop 700 Fairfield station rd. Fairfield, PA 717 642 6696. They have rebored two rifles for me, and relined one. They can make a barrel in any number of grooves. Bob Hoyt is "Good People"

T.J.'s sells 45-70 liners by the inch, they are hammer forged and can be had in any reasonable length. They offer several different twist rates. Give them a call for pricing and other information. they are good people to deal with. 859-635-5560 Jim H.
