Have been kicking this idea around for a while now, what do you guys think? I have all the reloading manuals and noted that in the .338-06 diagrams there are differences in dimensions. The Nosler #5 lists theirs as the A Square but the velocities are somewhat anemic. The Hodgen has the best velocities, but their diagram of the case almost looks to be an Ackley Improved version. Any thoughts, Bill, Dan, others.

Is the BLR made in a long action? If so all you need is a way to deal with the barrel extension.....

Nothing is *impossible*......but maybe paying the bill. [Smile]

hoehne: The .338-06 A-Square is the official .338-06, but there are a few versions out there that may be slightly different.

The only factory ammo for the .338-06 are now produced by Weatherby, and you should be able to look at the ballistics for it at their web site. Keep in mind that .33 bullets benefit from a high BC, so is easy for such bullets to shed their velocity at a slower pace than some other bullets.

Also, this forum has handloads for the .338-06 you can look at. Scroll to the bottom of this page to "Accuratereloading.com," then click on "The Reloading Pages.

Karl,
Properly the 338/06 is, by definition, the 30/06 necked up to .338. The cartridge was conceived and chambered for long before the advent of the A-Square company.
Practical, achievable velocities are about 2500 for 250s and a little over 2600 for 225s. 200s will do 2700 or a bit more.
Now someone is going to chime in and tell you "I get 2685fps with Swift 250s in my 338/06 with no pressure signs."
Could be but I have doubts!
Anyway, your long action BLR will work fine with the 338/06. Do you feel like the bolt is going to poke your eye out when you cycle it from the shoulder? Regards, Bill.
