Looking at the great pictures of the Kimber action posted by dj and Chuck on the other thread got me thinking about the relative gas handling abilities of these two actions. The Classic action has improved gas handling abilities over the pre-64 action. Not only does the Classic have two ports in the bolt body to allow gas to escape to the magazine, but it also has a gas block on the bolt opposite the extractor to prevent gas from coming back through the left raceway. The latest Classics also have a flange on the left side of the bolt shroud to deflect any gases that should make it down the left raceway away from the shooters face. Looking at the pictures, I can't tell if the Kimber has gas ports in the bolt body, but I assume (darn, I hate to use that word!) that it does. It also appears to have a flange on the left side of the bolt shroud. But I don't see a gas block on the left side of the bolt. Anybody care to comment, or have anything to add? | ||
